For me, art is an experimental space for questioning, imagining, acting, and talking about people's life, memory, and social issues from a private perspective. I create works by writing, ceramics, painting, video, socially engaged art and practice, revolve around daily life, focus on women's situation in East Asian families, including care, social reproduction and Cultural Politics of Emotion.

Eleven years ago in the summer, when I sitting at a wooden table from an old pottery workshop during 1980s in Jingdezhen, China, and began my first real creation (my previous work could only be called "design", "handwork", "appropriation of cultural symbols collage"), the question of "who I am" first came to me clearly. I directly use clay with my own body, and the works are covered with traces of my fingerprints, just like a dog urinating to mark a territory. In this way, I present and share the feeling about "the connection between me and everything". At that time, I think there are only these special, profound and beyond daily physical and mental feelings can be able to put into art creation and answer the question "Who am I?"

Later, I experienced childbirth, two divorces, the death of my mother (I think it is not only a physical disease, but also a disease caused by accumulated mental pressure). I found that there was a huge crack between my family members and lovers, who should be closed to each other, because of differences in class, experience, knowledge and gender concepts, and it caused explicit or implicit violence. In these collisions of reality, I believe that art should not just be the presentation of individual mental states, but a call to practice, which should blend in daily life, bring strength to oneself and others, generate emotional links, and coping with traumas.

I began to observe and capture the things that are difficult to communicate in daily life, and let art play a role in my connection with my relatives, neighbours, community and people of different classes, opening up the space of public understanding. I organized writing workshop and art project, used people's common individual experiences and objects we used in daily life as language to create scenes that allow different people to work together, take care of each other and have equal dialogue, let people perceive and experience'I am with others' . I am trying to explore what specific person, object, labor, or actions causes and sustains the emotion? What other forms might the family have?

As for the question "who I am", I think the true emotion is always the desire of the human heart, what we love, what we are loved by, is the basis of the uniqueness of each person's life.
